This notice covers the Article Reader extension and the hosted app at articlereader.org.
What you choose to save
The extension reads an article or selected passage when you choose a capture action. It can capture its text, title, source address, tables, captions, and figures, including image data or image addresses. It does not collect your browsing history or continuously monitor pages.
Save sends that capture over HTTPS to your signed-in Article Reader library. Download article JSON instead creates a file on your device. The extension does not receive your password. If sign-in is needed, it temporarily holds the capture in extension session storage so you can resume. A successful save removes that pending capture; closing the browser session also clears session storage.
Your account and library
The app stores your saved articles, generated recordings, reading position, preferences, and onboarding answers with your account. Your email is used for sign-in. Reading goals and background answers help us understand how people want to use Article Reader.
AWS hosts the app and its account libraries. Supabase handles authentication. Resend delivers sign-in email when configured as the authentication email provider. These services receive the information needed for their respective functions. Opening a source link or loading a remote image can contact the original publisher or image host.
Prepared recordings use a voice model on the app server. Device listening uses your browser's speech service; the available voices and their processing depend on your browser and operating system.
Your controls
Use Account in the app to download your library and profile or delete your account. Deletion removes the active account library and authentication account. Files you downloaded yourself remain on your devices until you delete them. A service provider may retain security or operational records under its own retention policies.
Recovery copies may retain earlier library data after deletion. Local recovery copies are replaced as new verified backups succeed, keeping the latest three. If backup processing is interrupted, older copies can remain until it resumes.
How extension data is used
Captured content is used to provide your reading, saving, and listening features. We do not sell extension data or use it for advertising. Use of information received through Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
